EGM’s line monitoring and analytics platform help utilities improve the overall reliability of their grid. Tasks that are normally time-based can be handled proactively with the information gathered from EGM sensors. Raw data is measured by the sensors and sent to the Meta-Alert® platform for further processing. Things like E-Field are determined at the sensor, then run through an algorithm in the platform allowing EGM to provide an accurate voltage measurement from the line without tying to a neutral or earth ground. For transmission networks, EGM measures conductor and ambient temperatures, as well as line vibration and movement. This movement can then be used to model wind speed for more accurate DLR and AAR calculations.
Since power generation comes in many flavors today, EGM can help utilities determine the impact of distributed energy resources on their networks. Our sensors can determine power flow direction and therefore the contribution of photovoltaic fields and wind generation on the existing infrastructure, avoiding congestion and ensuring uninterrupted power delivery. With applications already developed in the platform, EGM can calculate and report AAR and DLR ratings to help utilities efficiently run closer to the constraints on their existing infrastructure. This information can then be used to increase demand without reconductoring or having to build additional transmission circuits.
